CBA Best Practices

Conservation Burial Alliance Best Practice

While the CBA does not certify conservation burial grounds (CBGs), as professionals dedicated to the conservation of land, we hold our burial grounds to high standards with clear and consistent criteria for defining conservation burial. The following principles incorporate conservation values and ideals that are essential to the protection, design, and management of conservation burial grounds.

Green Burial Council Standards Over the Year

Since its inception in 2005, the Green Burial Council has formulated and subsequently updated the standards it requires for certification. Some conservation level cemeteries that enter into agreements with land trusts cite versions of these standards in their easements. We include several versions here to assist land trusts and their burial ground partners in locating the standards that were in effect at the time their easements were written.
