Oliverian Everlasting FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What are burial rights? Why not a plot?
What you are actually purchasing when you buy a plot in a conventional cemetery IS the right to be buried on the property, not to own real estate for eternity. At Oliverian Everlasting, your right to burial is essentially a reservation, and though we will take into account your preference for location, we may have to bury elsewhere due to topography, weather, or other unforeseen circumstances.

Can I be buried next to my spouse, partner, or a relative?
Yes. These are called companion burials, and they usually consist of stacking. We do not stack, as we want every body to be buried at the appropriate depth for optimum microbial activity. But if you purchase more than one burial right for this purpose, we will ensure that those adjacent spaces are reserved. If weather conditions force a change in burial location, the second burial reservation will be included.

Will Oliverian Everlasting be open in winter?
Oliverian Everlasting is open year-round. Winter burials are possible in part due to flexible and rotational burial. When the frost is in the ground, we use methods for warming through it to where the digging is doable.

Can a funeral director, my minister, or a celebrant be there?
Yes. All professional and volunteer support network members are welcome.

What about Veteran burial?
Military honors are common in natural burial grounds. Veteran benefits are available for burial in natural cemeteries the same as in others. For assistance in scheduling, call National Scheduling at 800-535-1117. For more details, go to NH Funeral Resources>Arrange Disposition>Military Veteran Burial.

How can I find a biodegradable container?
You can make a container or shroud yourself, or find a local artist or craftsperson who will make it for you. Funeral homes must accept your container without penalty. For more ideas and to find makers, go to the Funerary Artisans Collective.

What kind of grave markers or other commemorations are accepted at Oliverian Everlasting?
The marker is included in the burial rights purchase. Markers are flat, and sized to fit names and dates only. For other rules regarding burial space decor, go to Rules and Regulations.

What about transportation, home funerals, other details around doing everything ourselves?
New Hampshire Funeral Resources, Education & Advocacy has been advising and supporting NH home funeral families and those who choose to have a blended funeral (with partial use of a funeral home) for over 18 years. You'll find everything you need under How To, and personal support if you run into a snag.

Is burial available for cremation ashes in Oliverian Everlasting, too?
Yes, but a second right of burial must be purchased to include each set of cremated remains that is buried with a full body burial. Individual cremated remains burials will be allowed in a designated community burial area away from tree and plant roots. The chemistry of the cremated remains will be neutralized with an enzyme product to avoid environmental damage.

How much on-site parking is available at Oliverian Everlasting?
Parking for up to 20 cars is planned at the main entry, with two handicap parking spaces located inside the gate. Please carpool when possible.

How do people with mobility issues get to participate at the graveside?
An electric golf cart is available to carry people to the ceremony and the grave as needed.

Will there be any sort of shelter at Oliverian Everlasting?
Yes. We plan to build a permanent post and beam pavilion on the footprint of the old garage slab. The space will be used for ceremonies and gatherings as part of the burial right purchase.

Is there more burial space beyond the Oliverian Brook?
Yes. Phase II of the burial ground build will involve installing a footbridge over the brook to access the other side. Soil studies indicate an additional six or more acres suitable for burial in the future.

Are organ donations possible with Oliverian Everlasting burial?
Extraordinary services from New England Donor Services of Waltham, MA, make the details around organ donation possible prior to burial possible. Ask us for details.

Is there an easy way to plan for Oliverian Everlasting burial and make my wishes known to family?
Yes! Include your wishes in the Foundation for Healthy Communities NH Advance Directive Form. Add your ideas and documentation relative to green burials and home funerals to your advance directive folder.

How can I purchase a burial right?
Simply contact us and we'll walk you through it. To send us a request, go to Purchasing Burial Rights.

I've hunted and fished on this land for years. Will that still be permitted?
Yes. This land and adjacent land has historically been used for hunting, trapping, and fishing.  That will not change, but there will be more activity than there has been for decades with the inclusion of burials and development of some recreational and access foot trails. It will retain its purpose as envisioned by its owners of environmental stewardship.
